Hi Mike

That took me back, I hope I won't get in trouble for saying this. My friend says that the person who wrote "The Flowerpot Men" stories, was bathing their two children one night. Suddenly both children broke wind, hence the 'flibadobs' and 'flobadobs' way of speaking, because that is what it sounded like. Not sure how true it is.

I also used to watch this.

Now I am really feeling old.

I saw my first television when I was 14, my grandmother in London had one of these, a Bush 9 inch screen black and white. We didn't get TV reception here in Poole until 1952 when I was 18.

Ah, i remember both of those programmes well. I always wondered why the Flowerpot Men spoke the way they did! I bet some people complained at the time, claiming that children would copy them. And Little Weed had a very limited vocabulary, so she wasn't a good role model either.

My family didnt get a TV until the early 60's. I can remember going to the shop with my parents and seeing the test cards and feeling the heat and the distinctive smell of the valve-operated TV's - it was quite magical.

I cant remember exactly when we got a TV. We used to go and watch some friend's TV, which they had in a caravan.

I remember having the radio on for "Listen with mother," my mother and I would listen together. Daphne Ford and Julia Lang telling the stories. It always began with "Are you sitting comfortably children? Then I'll begin." My mother and I would say that to each other years later, when we spoke on the phone. Ah happy memories I have.

Hello gao

I don't know much about the college, can you tell me what information you want to know? Are you thinking of going there to study. Tell me what you want to know about the college, and I will try to help you.

Many an old timer laments about the disappearance of this ale or that lager, and becomes nostalgic about the glories of some fondly-remembered brew, when he is really mourning the passing of his youth.

Hello Gao

I think John is right, what you really need to do is contact the college. On the website under !contact us" there are course related enquiries. It gives you a phone number and an e-mail address for international students. Why don't you send them an e-mail, tell them about your exams and ask them about the course you want to do. They will be able to help you better than us. Let us know if you need any more help.

You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink - or are we the victims of a urinary extraction exercise? Back to nostalgia, I think you can have too much of it, if it reaches the point where you think everything was better in the past than it is now. I used to know a couple who led a very active life in their nineties, and one thing I noticed about them was that they didn't dwell on the past too much - they were far more interested in what they were going to do tomorrow, or next week.

Thanks for that reminder Margaret. It was a very entertaining show and the introductions were brilliant. I remember he always referred to the band as " the entire, indefatigable orchestra!"
