The author David Elkind said this about adolescence.

"Friendships in childhood are usually a matter of chance, whereas in adolescence they are most often a matter of choice."

That certainly makes sense, as in the earliest stages children will tend to be friends with the children of neighbours or of friends of their parents. The starting of secondary school is a big turning point, because the child is thrown into a larger group drawn from a wider area, and has the opportunity to be more selective about choosing their own friends.

JS Back John? where has he been lol?

I liked it for the music too, I can only suggest that he was suppose to play in a concert and just couldn't seem to get it right. He got a bit close to the train for my liking.

He'd been to visit his son, CPE Back! :D

Yes I can't quite piece together a narrative out of this short film. It looks like he's going to use the train to chop his own fingers off  after his disastrous concert, but it isn't clear exactly why he changes his mind, and then when he gets home he switches off the music centre and starts to play his keyboard instead, so does that mean when he appeared to be playing it at the start, that was also a CD and he was only pretending to play? I'm afraid the director may have over-estimated our intelligence!

I hadn't thought of the fact a CD was on at the begining, that is a possibility. I think I will have to watch it again just to see if I can find out.

I am glad he didn't get his fingers chopped off. I still enjoyed it though.

Here are some things not mentioned yet that I find strange in this film: 1. the music we hear at the beginning while he's at the kb is not what he's playing, 2. the teacher is downright nasty to throw him out like that; no teacher i know would do such a thing, 3. why does the teacher show him an excerpt with his right hand, and then expect him to repeat it with his left? 4. at the lesson, it seems he can't play at all, yet he suddenly appears in a concert? Who would have enlisted a person that can't play yet to perform in a concert? And he's playing an entirely different piece...

*shrug*

I guess we're supposed to leave the filmmaker some creative liberty? It was actually interesting. I liked the superimposed kb/parking lot lines/train track images. I'm afraid I didn't get any of the deeper nuances and meanings here either.

I wish my room and kb would light up like at the end when I play; that's one special candle.

Some interesting thoughts there Rojo, it was definately strange. I could do with a candle like that.

A man goes for a horse ride on Sunday. He rides due east for twenty four hours, then he gets off, stretches his legs and waters his horse. Then he mounts up again and rides due west for another twenty four hours. When he arrives back on his horse, at exactly the same place he started from, it's still the same Sunday.:confused::confused: Explain.

Nobody's offered an explanation yet! I'll give the answer at the weekend.
