I'll be back

I'm sorry to have to leave for a short while. My computer is down
and I will have to wait until I can find another one. The internet
port on my computer was fried when we had the last electrical storm.
Don't be sad, I will be back someday.

I'm Back!

Well guys I'm back at the library. My computer is being repaired.
The thunderstorm did a real number on my computer's internet
port where it can't communicate out with other computers. So I
had to come back to the library to do my internet work and chat
with you. Hopefully I will get my problems taken care of. I thought
it was the end for a while. I won't be on line as much as when I
was at home on the net. It's nice to talk to you guys again.

Great to see you, and I sure hope the damage to your computer is limited to the port.

Way back when - I worked in communications and I certainly saw damage electrical storms can do to electronic equipment. It's always a wise precaution to completely disconnect from the phone line as well as the power whenever a storm is within about 20 miles. Though the risks are somewhat low - they do exist. Surge protection may be a slight help, but for the most part they cannot handle high energy spikes, nor do they act fast enough. The exception is when using industrial grade gas tube equipment - which probably costs more than our computer.

We had a dilly of a storm last night. Lots of noise, and some flooding on certain highways. Oddly enough, no high winds.

Anyway - hope you get your 'puter back soom.

ATB!

Well, my computer is fixed. But, for how long. I still need to save up
for another one in case it happens again. I don't think it will ever be
fixed again. This reminds me of the ice storm when I couldn't talk to
you guys for two weeks.

You might consider investing in a good rated backup unit - not your normal power strip that doesn't do diddly-do-wah in a storm, but one of those husky things that sits on the floor and will let the computer run for like 20 minutes when the lights go out. Yes, they are expensive, but not nearly as expensive as having to replace a PC and all its peripherals.

Those units are an absolute necessity here with all our summer storms.

That was so funny! What I really need is a way to make my internet
box where it works like a wi fi. Being plugged up on electricity is one
thing but internet boxes can cause trouble too.
