Bass guitar amp/cord being stupid

Whenever I'm trying to play my bass the sound cuts out either after a few seconds or after playing a particular loud note. Jiggling the cord around in the input brings it back, but again, only for a few seconds.

I don't know if it is the amp or the cord that is broken. I feel it may be the cord since the input still puts out a buzzing sound if I put any thing metal near it (except the cord, which makes no sound). So is it probably the cord? I hope so because I can replace that.

it sounds like its most likely the cord, try borrowing one from a friend and testing it before going out and buying a new one

A speedy reply. Excellent. I'm resolved to just hit up one of the local music shops tomorrow and ask to borrow a cord. The only one of my friends cool enough to play an instrument lives over an hour away. Thanks.

ifuturist! Hey! You should live around here. If a bass player was trying to plug in to a bass amp, and had the slightest difficulty, guitarists would start coming over to try and help, unless some drummers push them out of the way first. The minute I read your posting I wanted to rush over with a new cord. Right now I'm still wondering what you were going to play, and if you use your fingers and a pick.
as always, John Watt

An experienced bass player will "dial" in their bass amplifier to provide the best tone for their style of playing. A properly set up bass amplifier cannot make a bad player good, but an improperly set up amp makes a good player sound horrible. Properly dialing in a bass amplifier helps the player not only achieve the best sound but also fully understand the operation and limitations of their amplifier.

What stimulated this comment? I agree with almost everything that you said. I disagree with your final sentence; My rig has no limitations! :D
