Aw, thanks CT64. :)

Yep, no doubt about it; I looove living here. I feel very lucky. *nods*

Last year I went to the festivities in Ottawa, which is most probably the best place to celebrate Canada Day. I think the Queen will be there this year. I hope she has a good time.

Happy Canada Day to all our Canadian members.

CT, thanks for the sentiment. Rojo you are correct, the Queen is, in fact at the festivities. She spoke so beautifully, both in French and English and spoke to "fellow Canadians" while the pomp and festivities were ongoing. There was a flyover by the Snowbirds. Next year I MUST attend in Ottawa. I had tears just streaming down my face as I witnessed all of this...I can only imagine what it would be like in person.

I had just missed the "musical ride" by the RCMP so I googled it and would like to share it with all here. It is pretty amazing, IMHO.

Happy Canada Day! Half of my life was spent in Canada, from rural Quebec to Edmonton, Alta. I have to say, though, that in my youth the 24th of June was bigger than the 1st of July, 'cause if you are born in Quebec two, not one, national birthdays compete with each other within a week span. As a little boy, we use to collect all the logs and firewood we could find on the 23rd and generate a huge bonfire on the shore of the St. Lawrence. From a distance, in the dark, we saw a multitude of these fires burning. Twas Saint-John's Eve! An ancient ritual, filled with profane significance, celebrating the full blossoming of summer. Songs were sung, stories told, and popularity contests were being played out. Young girls would look at you with interested eyes and you could stay up as long as you could!

Nah, Saint-John's Eve was the national day, not "Canada Day"!
