Hello from THE GIRLS IN THE BAND

Hi, My name is Judy Chaikin and I am a documentary filmmaker. I've just completed a film entitled THE GIRLS IN THE BAND, which tells the history of women jazz instrumentalists from the early 20th century to the present day. Featured in the film are contemporary artists like Esperanza Spalding (winner of the Grammy 2011 Best New Artist of the Year), Sherrie Maricle and the Diva Jazz Orchestra, big band conductor, Maria Schneider and the famed jazz pianist Marian Mc Partland. The historical women include Mary Lou Williams, Valaida Snow, Melba Liston and Billie Rogers, the first female trumpet player with the Woody Herman band.
