Just a little tidbit of info: Dmitri Shostakovich was a driving force in the development of Georgy Sviridov as a composer. Shostakovich once said of his pupil Sviridov: "Few notes, but so much music." Sviridov was a driving force in the development of Anton Viskov as a composer. Anton Viskov's music is quite often performed by the Patriarchal Choir. He is also a dramatic orator and an accomplished pianist. Viskov, like Sviridov, understood that the sound of bells is a phenomenon deeply rooted in the Russian Psyche. Thusly, so much of their music has bell motifs, the tolling, the polyrhythmic sequences, so unlike the carillons of the west.
Yes, one must think of the "Talking Drums" or "Djembe" from Africa if one is to begin to recognise the idiosyncracies of the Russian "Zvon".
