what kinda pianos and stuff do you guys all have? i have an acoustic guitar (a lauren), an electric guitar (a jackson), a classical guitar (can't figure out what this one says on the sticker), an acoustic bass guitar (a fender), and my piano's a conover cable company that's about to turn 100 in a year, my grandma bought it a long time ago and made me learn how to play it or else i wasn't allowed to get any other instrument...so i can play that best of all https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif hehehe

My main instrument is a Paxman Triple Horn (model L80 if I'm not wrong - to lazy to go and check) - and an old King Doublehorn.
2 trumpets (the one was my grandfathers. Made 1887. Can't play anymore, but is nice on the wall)
Roland RD-250s piano
several sound modules, effekt processors and so on
hva faen hedder en "dirigentpind i rosentræ" på engelsk??
2 recorders (don't know how to play them though)
4 meters of (vandslange -please help me again for the english word - could it be waterpipe???) with mouthpiece and a copper bell. I use it for a show I make in the lokal school every year for the 3. grades, when they have the opportunity to choose an instrument when they join the music school

That was what I could think of right now...

dirigentstok i rosentræ = (conductor's)baton in rosewood
vandslange = garden/waterhose

you should try those recorders at one point https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif - heh...
I had a small collection of them at one point... and I remember taking my sopranino-recorder (in F) to a concert band rehearsal and playing the horn part in a Chess-medley - there's a passage at the very beginning where the 1st horn plays a melodic couterpoint to the melody - without much else in the band at that time... so it was quite audible... hehe... it was great fun... https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif - or what about "Entry of the Bojars" by Halvorsen, arranged (by yours truely) for recorder quartet https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif hehe...

Well, I have a piano, a violin, and drumsticks. No drums though, because I've been only playing for a few months and I don't know if I will stick with it. Piano I have been playing for 5 years and I really love it. Violin I have been playing for 4 years, but it's just not my "true calling".

I was thinking about coming here and bragging about my collection of instruments, however after seeing everyone elses impressive stash, mine doesn't look all that great https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I know that I don't want to bore anyone, so I will keep it simple:

3 Fender Stratocaster electric guitars
1 Fender 12 string Acoustic
1 Gibson Acoustic/Electric
1 Ibanez 7-string electric
1 Fender Jazz Bass

Needless to say, I play the guitar. Yet sadly am not endoresed by Fender https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Well this is fun and a great example of why I like this forum. The grand pinao is sitting right next to the plastic harmonica.

Because my current collection is a bit boring - a small piano, midi keyboard, Ovation guitar, autoharp in a sawdust covered case in the garage and a Marine Band harmonica - I thought I would reminisce through my collection over time.

I had a trumpet shaped kazoo when I was very young which spoiled me for any wind instrument. Since I like to sing I can't bear to put my breath through something without using my vocal chords.

Next came the dime store guitar which I played with paper clips and pennys for a pick. It was a tough little thing upon which I learned to love the blues and minor chords. I will never forget the day I put a new set of strings on it - incredible!

Took drum lessons when I was ten and got a parade drum soon after. Received an invitation to play with a girl's marching ensemble but couldn't handle all that attention. Went to jam with some friends who had electric guitars. They played Ventures songs and there I was, keeping a beat with my parade drum, pot lids for cymbals and a wire bookstand for a high hat. We were bad. Got a Sears drum set for Christmas when I was thirteen and embarked on a 3 year stint with my buddies in a garage band... birthday parties, battle of the bands and our crowning achievement: the after-game dance at my high school, playing the usual sixties mix of the Beatles, Cream, Stones, Hendrix, and (shh) the Monkees.

Somewhere in there I taught myself to play chords on the piano. Found out that the Beatles only used chords with numbers in them and time signatures you couldn't dance to. 'Bout that time I bought myself an imitation Hofner bass with a violin body just like Paul's. I was better looking than him but not as good on the bass... right. Somewhere in there I purchased a pear wood recorder with green stamps and found out I could do a little wind work after all, learned Greensleeves anyway. Always had a 6 string guitar around too and wrote songs most people did not understand.

Then we got serious and bought a 12 string Gibson acoustic (really ugly - big head, little body). Started playing original songs with a couple of other singer songwriters and we started playing folk semi rock at churches and youth gatherings. Had an undersized Hammond organ for as short time (had to take it apart and solder in a new resistor to make it work). We filled out the ensemble with electrics and drums and I got a Fender P-Bass and we started playing larger audiences. After I moved on, those guys were able to go full time with their band called Daniel Amos. There is website by that name if you are curious.

Now I mostly plunk my little piano (it is short 4 keys on each end - strange) late in the evening to calm things down some, and in the process craft a pensive piece here and there. If I can ever get a midi file converted to wav or something, I'll post it. Guy at work says he is going to get digital samples from a 290 Bosendorfer. I asked him how fast it would go and he patiently explained it is a very expensive piano, more than my allowance. Anyone ever played one?
Kinda long-winded, hope I didn't keep you from something important.

Jimi Hendrix owned quite a few guitars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimi_Hendrix#Guitars). Fenders are generally good instruments, but are better known for their electric guitars than their acoustic.

Do you know how to form barre chords? With a couple of cage systems, you can play any major or minor chord without having to think about it. Guitar is a fun instrument to pick up and learn fairly easily.

And, few guitarists are content with their voice; just be confident and you'll do great with any vocal music.

Gareth
Jan-08-2006, 15:52
Yeah, I know how to form barre chords but some of them confuse me, I wish I could sing, the joy, the feeling, that you know you could sing and everyone appreciates it!!

I play:

I also own:

some day I hope to add an organ to my collection, but for now, I rely on the generosity of my university and church for my organ learning experiences https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I recently got a 10 year old Roland Electric piano, although I know Roland to sound very electronic, the feel of the E.P is great, it has got many features, I also figured out the first 5 seconds of Dvoraks 9th Symphony 1st movement on the strings on there, basically sounded identical to the recording that I have. The only trouble with Electric Pianos is that when they get older they might not function as well, and when you press down the keys they make a "duk" sound if you get what I mean????

Some of this electronic gear may seem to be out-dated, but it works so well
with my set-up and the number one reason I still use it is because it SOUNDS good. There is nothing on the market I can find that beats the sound of this gear. So here we go..

Synclavier 9600 with Direct to Disk Post Pro
Kurzweil K2500r
Akai c3000i (2)
Akai s2800
Roland Super JD990 (2)
Roland A-90 expandable controler

Chapman Stick 10 string
Duncan Soutar Bagpipes (silver & ivory set)
Hardie Bagpipes

I hope someday to get a Rodgers organ. The pipe organ is my first love.

be a 62 year old stradi copy which sounded great, autoharp, a melodica
mouth organ, a clarnet, not to mention all of the toy instruments I had as
a child, and a dreadnaught styled guitar. Even though I no longer have
any of these, I play the pipe organ at church. I even took a comb and
played it like a kazoo. My record players were my closest friend when I
couldn't play one of them. Now I have a computer that plays music.
I hope you enjoy your music like I do.

Two Clarinets (Renee for outdoors, Aria for indoors)
an Oboe (Zoe)
an alto saxophone (Sophika)
a soprano recorder (Rose)
two digital pianos (Orlando living at my father's house, since I couldn't be bothered to bring him to Korea . . . then I missed him so I bought Amade here.)
an upright grand piano (currently living at my brother's house until I stop moving around so much),

Of course, I play other recorders, flute, and tenor saxophone, but I can't afford any of those right now, so I'm saving my pennies. When I need to perform on them I borrow from friends or family. Technically I also own a trombone, but I don't play it so I gave it to my Dad.

I own a 'Legnica" piano. It's been 12 years since I have it, (and I'm not the first owner) and it still plays really good:)
