I'm very pleased to present to you the new graphics design on MIMF.dk!

I commisioned the excellent Canadian web designer Lane Olson (http://www.blamoholics.com/portfolio/) to do a complete makeover of this forum, complementing the design of my personal website www.magle.dk (http://www.magle.dk)

As you may know, www.magle.dk (http://www.magle.dk) was also designed by a Canadian - the outstanding graphics artist Pollux Chung (http://www.polluxchung.com). The reason I'm not using Pollux to do this forum is simply that creating "stylesheets" for a UBBforum (the software that runs this forum) is a field in its own and Lane Olson is an expert in that field! He was the right person for this job.

I hope you will enjoy the new design - I'm very happy with it myself!

https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifIt's Great..Very "High Class" https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers444.gif Paul aka Pamadu.
P.S. Knew I would be asleep when this all happened, and I still have all the "gremlins" to play with. https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif
Yeah....Well done Lane https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

yeah it's a nice idea with the "common-theme" with your personal homepage and the forum... - though I must admit, I liked the typesetting a bit better on the "old layout"... - the fonts were somewhat more legiable, more easy to read - not that the other fonts are bad, I just like the clearity about the arial/helvetica/verdana fonts - I find them more uncomplicated to read.

https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifYeah....I have already said how good the "new look forum" is.....but do agree with corno about the font...I am having a little trouble reading....but of course,it may be that we all got so used to the old font.I am sure we will soon get used to it. it is GREAT. https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers444.gif Paul/Pamadu.

I'm glad you (mostly) like the new design! https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I can't say that I agree with complaints about the fonts. Take a look at this screen-shot (attachment)...I think it's very readable.

[EDIT: you must click on "Attachment" to see the screenshot in full size]

Mar-05-2004, 01:37
They are NOT COMPLAINTS....They are merely an observation.
My Screen cerainly cannot get the Font to look as large as your attachment.However...it MAY BE ME....BUT IT DOES LOOK BIGGER NOW.Perhaps you have altered the resolution since I first saw it,12 or more hours ago.....anyway...It is still "Excellent" Pamadu.
P.S.In Fact I can "Honestly" tell you that when I first saw it,
it WAS much smaller....Now it is twice the size.

Mar-05-2004, 02:10
it's not that the fonts are impossible to read... I just find it easier, on webpages, to read fonts like arial and verdana as compared to times new roman or similar fonts... - when writing a message like this one I find it easier to read the guidelines above than the text I'm responding to - it might, and probably will differ not only from operating system to operatingsystem but also from browser to browser. - just some critical comments, nothing more...

Pamadu>> you are right, the first font that came with the data I uploaded was way too small...I believe it was a small "new roman". very hard to read. But it was corrected 4-5 hours later.

Corno>> strange.... the fonts you should be seeing are indeed the "Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" font-family, not times new roman... did you see the screen-shot I attached? what browser/OS are you using? Would it be possible for you to take a screen-shot and upload it here?

The fonts are better now... I don't know if I had some residual-font-coding stuck in my internet explorer... but it's much more legiable now... https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

After the new design was ready I posted my site for review at the largest webdesign-forum in the world, "Sitepoint":

a few quotes:

"I don't do many website reviews, but thought I'd take a look at some of the entries... wow!. Your site reminds me why I love the Web so much..."
-Brandon Eley :: SitePoint Community Advisor

"I have reviewed many sites here in the Web Site Review forums at Sitepoint, and this has to be on of the best I have had the chance to look at."

great reviews Frederik...
I had a look at the other forum some days ago and saw a commentary on www.magle.dk (http://www.magle.dk) being impossible to access... I also have that problem when using internet explorer - but not with eg. netscape 7.1...

It's very strange indeed! What versions of IE and Windows are you using? And what kind of error do you get? And can you sometimes get access or do you always get the error with IE? I would be helpful for me to know, thanks.

I've gotten the message everytime lately, I can't remember when I last entered your homepage via typing www.magle.dk (http://www.magle.dk) in the address - admittedly it's not that often I check your "normal" homepage.

I get this text:

</font><blockquote><font class="small">Svar på:</font><hr />

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Apache/2.0.47 (iTools 7/Mac OS X) DAV/2 PHP/4.3.2 mod_ssl/2.0.47 OpenSSL/0.9.6i Server at www.magle.dk (http://www.magle.dk) Port 80

also - see attached imagefile.

I use Win XP/IE 6 when I can't get in.
It helps to write - http://www.magle.dk/index.html - that works every time.
I've cleaned out my cached files and I've tried it on my laptop where it won't work either under the above mentioned cirkumstances.

I've send an email to my webhost, now we'll se what they have to say about this.... hopefully it can be solved!

In the meantime I've got something you should read...... The posting guidelines!! https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"If you have made a post and wish to add additional info / follow up - and others have not yet replied - if possible edit the post instead of making a new reply. (you can edit posts up to 6 hours after posting)"

heh... well... I just wanted to add some "subtexts" to the picture... but since that blasted picture-adding program https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smash.gif of yours adds the picture to the end of the text that could not be done in anyother way... and - the reason why it wasn't in the first part of my post was because it didn't work the first time... https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bawling.gif

so you... https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smash.gif https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smash.gif

https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif &lt;- me https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

and just to add some sort of value to this post - yeah I hope they'll find a solution for the problem for it would be a shame for all those potential visitors who'll be cut of because of this minor bug - maybe a simple duplicate of your index.html to either default.html/default.htm or index.htm might do the trick... I'm not that much into the default-formats of apache webservers... but it appears that IE doesn't get the correct referal-url from the apache-server...

hmmmm.... excuses, excuses....well, I'll let it pass for this time https://www.magle.dk/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'll just wait for a reply from my webhost before I look more into the matter.

In the meantime, here are some more great reviews:
