Bassoon oddity - !!

Here is an example of the solo bassoon part from Cantata BWV 150 (J.S. Bach). I've never seen a transposing bassoon before, at least not one that seems to be pitched in A ... bizarre!!

And, it is written down to C below the bass cleft (at its lowest) which means the sound is an A. One semitone below B-flat of the standard bassoon ... how very, very odd.
