Stradivarius...

A Stradivarius that has been owned by the James Bond author Ian Flemings half-Sister is up for sale on the web - I just read about it but I don't know which site has it.

My first thought is wouldn't it be great to have one in my possesion. But why?? Just to say I have one?? Maybe best to let someone who plays violin buy it (not that I could even imagine affording it

I have had the opportunity to play very old Native flutes that are in museum collections. After sitting in controlled environs for a long time some of these flutes "looked" like they did 100-150 years ago BUT there was no life in them. I wonder if it is this way with a Stradivari violin?

Hawksey ... yeah, right on. With Stradivarius, you're paying for a label (not necessarily a brilliant violin) The vast majority of the really brilliant ones are in the hands of a very few people (most of whom had them given to them in perpetuity via a donation from some enlightened benefactor ... sadly sometimes banks.)
