Jodrell Bank

For those who didn't know there was talk of closing down Jodrell Bank Observatory, which would have been a crying shame. So many wonderful things happen there, as anyone interested in astronomy will know.

The good news is it is saved.

Aloha CT64,

Jodrell Bank is the forefather to modern radio-astronomy. Its mission was not to produce lurid astrophotography :grin::grin:

Cheerio,

CD :):):)

Aloha Tûrwethiel,

Yes indeed! Anything that tickles(dazzles) the optical nerve is lewd(lurid).

Cheerio,

*Get there in a parsec*??? 3.26156 Lightyears away??? Ummm - ermmm, not in your lifetime, ergo, using the best methods we have today for space travel you will die before you reach that distance.

Alot of the *lewd* astrophotographs with phantasmagorical colors are really *false color images*, especially those from X-Ray observational platforms. The simple reason being that X-Rays belong to the *invisible* light spectrum. The colors are chosen to help illustrate details not otherwise apparent.

Here's are samples of false color astro-images:
