Climate Change (oh no not again)

JHC! You talk about magpies, I remember "Heckle and Jeckle",
two cartoon characters from the black and white days,
each with a cigarette in their beaks.

I posted about this somewhere else,
but seeing your poem, that I can't reply to,
seeing it as a sea chanty.

Remember one posting with photos, where you said I must be a smart man?
I had to think about that, because I'm always behind with urban technology.
The reason has to be the technology, being so easy even I'm doing it.

Here's a domain start I put together as a joke for a friend down the street.
It's my domain name, but my publishing is going to take a while.
You might think wow, John built a domain, but it almost builds itself.
This could have almost endless pages, each one scrolling into infinity, almost.
Under $10 a month, and it's fun building a domain,
even if it's not as much fun as using a wah-wah pedal or licking 9-volt batteries.

And this is the Niagara Peninsula.
Some providers provide it as published, others jumble it up.

John, what made me smile was the way Dennis Glover moved away from the past "the magpies said" to the present/future "the magpies say" in the end the USA destroys Russia or visa versa but in the greater scheme of thing it don't matter one jot, time continues. is a domain the same as a web site??

Hey, I'd love to explain.
A domain is an electronic device you own online, an individual entity.
To be a .ca domain, ca for Canada, you need to register with tucows,
a government owned or associated business that researches you,
and decides if you can be a .ca user and member.
Being a .ca gets you membership in The Canadian Internet Registration Authority, CIRA,
where you get to vote on Canadian internet policy.
Ottawa, our capital, is in Ontario, close considering other provinces,
but I've never been able to afford to go to a convention.

magle.dk is the same, only dk for Denmark.

Facebook, domains like that, offer you a page or pages you can personalize.
When you build your own domain, you are building pages.
And for computer use, it's peaceful, no pop-ups or animated ads.
The builds I have, the lowest capacity offered with email, are under $10 a month.
Yes, imagine that, being able to build pages, do photos, do whatever digital you can do,
on all the time, going world-wide, an electronic device for under $10 a month.

Because I'm a long time domain,
if you put my name into any search engine I come up first in all the world.
And with the interior email you have independence, privacy and for .ca's,
government assurances and credentials.

I could divide the capacity with you to use your own log-in and password,
as interactive or not with me, as you choose, letting you build with email.
I've got thirty potential email addresses to use, as if I had employees.
The top level capacity, almost $40 a month, could be used to run a province.

I've got nothing for sale on my domain, or I'd have a shopping cart.
I could have music playing, but I'd sooner be quiet and let you have your own.
What I really like is knowing anyone can type my name into any search,
and come up with my domain where they can leave me a message,
changing "contact" to "your feedback".
The first serious offer I had for my semi-solid-body guitar, even if it's not for sale,
came from Sweden. Five Scottish patent firms offered services, three in England,
and one in India. American interest got to be too viral for me, losing that entirely.

When I ask people how many .ca domains they think there are in Canada,
everyone is saying hundreds of thousands or over a million, but no,
there are just over 2,000.
To start owning and building a domain, I took the advice of a bassist,
who took me to her house to show me her computer and domain activity,
building for others.
She said to register like I'm doing license plates for my car, to only be legit.
At johnwatt.ca I'm the owner, the admin, the tech, the contact, the credentialed email address.
I just wish I could have forums so locals could use them during elections.
That would almost be a nice as going door-to-door during a rainy day.

Considering it's global conglomerates who are dominating world trade and politics,
I don't see armed conflict between major countries as ever happening.
It's going to be the collapse of the internet, as much as the Tower of Bable,
that will plunge the world into economic and social disorder.

Professor Marshall McCluhan was writing that back in the sixties.
"The Global Village" and "Understanding Media". Everyone should read those.
That's when you'll truly understand online and online usages.

Nice to see that during the very cold spell we have been going through all the wind turbines off the coast here have been stationary. Well, we would not want to wear them out, would we.

Well Mike/teddy, for a start it could have been too windy or they could be closed for maintenance or a number of reasons if you think about it.

Teddy's commented on this before, when we have a cold period it is often also a period of no wind, his point being "what's the use of wind turbines if they don't work when most needed" I agree, until such time as we can efficiently store LARGE quantities of electricity then wind power is mostly useless - except for filling the operators bank balances.

I usually point out that we live on an island surrounded by tidal water, tides are predictable, wind is not, water is more dense than air so thus more efficient, although there are periods at high and low water that the flow ceases, that can be compensated for by installations at intervals round the coast because tide times vary, think of a tide as a long slow wave gradually moving along the coast

Sorry Mike but you are toying to use common sense, and when it comes to GREEN energy there is no such thing.

.

I usually point out ................................
I realise all that Mike and I am not arguing for or against. Power is not just to provide heat and wind turbines were never meant to be a stand alone power generator the engineers are not stupid, used in conjunction with Solar they add to Hydro and Tidal as a renewable source. Location is the important thing with any of these methods.

Last month, new research showed that during the Miocene era, some 14 to 23 million years ago, Antarctica gave up huge volumes of ice, equivalent to tens of meters of sea level rise, when levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are thought to have been around 500 parts per million. We're at a little over 400 parts per million now.

Even though it's global warming that's bringing me back here, the sun's too bright,
I'm staying in to do a painting, I'm glad to be back.

I have to add.
Looking across Lake Erie, seeing eleven wind turbines on the shore north of Buffalo,
they very rarely are turning, or only one or two are.
Why design them like huge airplane propellers, that work as motorized in front of an airplane?
Remember those little plastic spinny fans you could put on a bicycle, or hat?
Fan blades like Mickey Mouse ears that twirled very fast when you blew on them?
They also have less surface area for birds flying by.

Canadian natives noticed a change in the climate in the 1700's,
saying the winter grew harsh, and birds were losing colour and song.
In England, by 1700, there wasn't a tree left standing tall enough for a boat mast.
Global warming began with European over-population burning wood.
There were no fatal diseases for humans in North, Central and South America,
until Europeans brought over their remnants of the Dark Ages,
and spread them around native campfires. 25,000,000 Mayan killed in four years.

I just got a nice old National Geographic with an article about Antarctica,
showing fossils of the tropical vegetation it used to be covered with.
I still see Antarctica natives as moving to north of Africa, with the coming ice age,
building the pyramids and all those underground cities.

Thinking about that might make you need some Aspirin, not some Miocene.

Here's one of my new artworks, what is folk art for me,
with a nice imitation soapstone frame,
that's a statement about arctic ice, whales, fish, global warming and technology.

Please, please, play politely.
I'm showing my little tender heart baby feelings here.

Talking about climate change, I changed.
My hair was growing out for over two years,
past my shoulders, and my beard was long.

Going to St. Catharines to a salon owned by the former girlfriend of a conga artist,
I used to play with in Drastik Measures,
I had the beard completely removed and my hair cut short.
I wore new clothes and boots I never wore before,
and for over a day I could go places to be places I couldn't go before,
because no-one knew it was me.
I never lie, but illusion and deception are just role-playing for me.
and if it helps me to survive....because I don't drive, just walking.

Thanks for the encouragement teddy, but it's more than just soul.
It's frustration and wanting to accomplish something, by myself.
I got tired of always playing guitar and always talking about starting a band.
I get offers, but I want to be in a band that's a step up for me,
but it's hard, in Ontario, so many mature musicians losing it to drugs and drink,
everyone seeing me as a physical freak for my abilities at my age.
Bassists only want to come out to set up and play and get paid.

There's a lot of symbolism in that whale painting, explaining that in another thread,
but let me add something you can't see here, not getting it up big enough.
If you look where the iceberg is showing above the surface,
if you see it that way, or think they are poorly rendered clouds,
look at it up close. It's the forecastle of the Titanic,
and if you think it shouldn't be there, you're right.

My comment about not driving is because others have cell phones,
and make calls to alert people who really don't like me.

teddy! Let me give you a quick explanation about what I mean about symbolism.
I appreciate your comment, but after the photo I only typed about, what, my hair?

If you see the top right hand corner,
where it could look like it should be the topside of the iceberg,
or maybe just some poorly painted or placed clouds,
no,
if you look close enough to see the rectangular row of identical windows,
it looks like the forecastle of the Titanic,
and if you think it shouldn't be there, you're right.
It's in a head on collision with the symbolic sperm whale,
there being three whales in the painting.

But this isn't the thread I'm looking for.
I was ranting a lot last night and I've got the photos.

I have noticed the Sun being a lot hotter that could tie in with being brighter... I hope it's not going super.........

Local natives around here talk about weather change of the last few hundred years.
Europeans created global warming with over-populations burning wood fireplaces.
By 1750, there wasn't a tree left in England tall enough for a boat mast.
Natives say there wasn't a winter, like a long spring.
The birds sang more and had more colour.
There were no diseases for humans, until the Dark Ages made their entrance.

It is getting hotter, and even if all pollution stopped immediately,
it would keep getting hotter, for a while.
Water shortages are now preventing Americans from producing a lot of food.
They buy unripe product from other countries and use radiation to soften it.
That was for export, but now they're starting to eat it themselves.
Did you know California is posturing itself as dividing into four states, all about the water?

That's when even all the biggest Hollywood stars in the celebrity skies, will go super-market.

Here it is, December the fourth in Welland, in the middle of the Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, Canada.
This is a Canadian winter I'm typing about,
with those northern winds blowing down both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, yes, those great lakes.
I was out today, moving art supplies from one storage across the street, to a new storage,
and I was only wearing old pants and a t-shirt, and I was sweating a little.
I could have been sweating more, but long slats of wood and pre-cut panels,
carried a little at a time, weren't very heavy at all.
And there was no wind at all.
