I know that Evanescence are a Christian group - but not quite sure of they fall into the Heavy Metal category - perhaps Christian rock ? I can't really say that I am a fan though.

Have to say Narnia are absolutely fabulous, and definitely Christian Prog-Metal. While I may not agree with their religion their "Long live the king" album is one of the best I've come across in a long time! Give 'em a go!

I think the OP means Christian in that the lyrics of the songs are based on the Christian faith, as in as I already posted, Narnia (quote from I think "Water from the Father": "I met Jesus Christ, he's the son of God"). I don't agree with the lyrical expression of faith in songs (too much like having someone's beliefs rammed down your throat), but that's just a personal thing. I must say, Narnia definitely won me over (to their music, not their religion) with their incredible musicanship.

There used to be a heavy metal band that did gospel music. They called
themselves Stryper. I enjoyed listening to their music especially with
the song called Calling on You and Honestly. Try looking up intregrety
hosanna music.

I don't know if these count as Symphonic Metal (probably not), but:

Neal Morse--albums 'Testimony' and '?' are great prog metal/prog rock epics. I haven't heard his other two.
Zao--really dark, aggressive metalcore with Christian lyrics
Demon Hunter--Don't know anything about them, but I've seen their CDs on the shelves a lot recently.

But Christian rock has a huge number of artists--I just don't listen to any of it.

Edit: Rate Your Music comes up with this list for the genre Christian Metal

Christian rock makes as much sense as The Roman Empire becoming The Holy Roman Empire, and that doesn't include what happened north of Hadrian's Wall. Jubal, named in Genesis as our musical host, one of three talents given to mankind as a compromise for being disenfranchised from The Garden of Eden, is the oldest known named musician on Earth, and the oldest profession.
If you connect to your host through his host, and his host with their hosts, and their hosts having his host connected with other hosts to another host, you might become a player, online.

Christian Symphmet Bands

Let me echo the reference to HB as the premier Christian symphonic metal band. The group is outstanding. Saviour Machine was also good, but: (1) it was probably best described as a Christian goth band; and (2) as noted, it broke up a while ago. For other Christian symphonic bands, try:

Harmony (pretty good; could be more symphonic, though)

Divinefire (also pretty good; could also be more symphonic)

Promised Land (not great, but trying)

Check out Harmony and Divinefire on Youtube. Look up Promised Land at http://www.myspace.com/promiselandx.

I would like to also echo HB!!! They are very awesome.

I would also like to clarify the thoughts on Saviour Machine. They are not technically broken up and the official word is that they will finish the Legend series. Legend III:II is still yet to be released. Eric Clayton, the lead singer, has fallen ill over the last several years and it appears that he and his brother Jeff will be completing the series.

As for symphonic Christian, there just isn't a lot out there.

HB

Promise Land

Hi there.. I know this thread is old, but I came across this page while google searching Christian Symphonic Metal. So i decided to sign up and chime in. lol

I recently discovered the band Promise Land during some online event they had.
Evidently they returned to the scene this past november with a new website, new singer, and a new single called 'Hiding Place'. I'm really diggin this band right now, although, I noticed the production on their older stuff was not as good, but their new song shows lots of potential.
It's worth checking out if you're into symphonic metal. http://www.promiselandx.com

Hey mate,
I dont know if you have heard of ECTHIRION my own band, I randomly decided to join this forum to post on this thread as it seems that many Christian metallers don't know small bands like mine exist, the project is symphonic extreme metal with some folk/eastern influences.
the new album has real orchestral recordings, a really good session drummer and 4 different vocalists! I thought it appropriate to comment as a lot of the bands mentioned are more along the lines of metalcore rather than demons and wizards,

Here is a youtube video that somebody has put one of the old tracks on....
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ecthirion&aq=0&oq=ecth

the website is http://ecthirion.cronoosphere.com and it has just been updated with news about our new release.
sorry if this is spam, :| but it does seem relevant to me as we are symphonic metal :) God bless.
