"Heat" - music missing from OST

Hi,

Does anyone out there know the title or artist of the guitar/rock instrumental track played in the movie, "Heat", in the scene where De Niro (or Pacino, can't quite recall which) is driving fast down a highway at night nearer the end of the film? This track is missing from the OST release and no one on the web seems to mention it! It's nicely charged with some great electric guitar work, with a kinda haunting, brooding feel to it. It sounds a little bit like Pink Floyd, perhaps a bit heavier, but I don't think it's by them. Any help would be FANTASTIC.

Thanks,

Andy

Good to find your post, andy64. I believe I have the same concern, though I describe the missing tracks somewhat differently. The whole reason I purchased the soundtrack was to have the two, maybe three, tracks I describe as electronica. Perhaps they are the same tracks you are interested in, but I describe them differently. In any event I think we agree the compilation is incomplete. I know from past tracks I have found missing that this occasionally results from the artist having personal rights to the work and refusing to dilute his/her benefits by allowing the work to be included on some compilation over which they have little or no control. But I agree with you that the absence of expressed concerns like ours, as well as answers, is frustrating. Like the line from that old David Duchovny episode -- The answer is out there.

This probably sounds stupid, but I had the HEAT soundtrack playing all morning in the background, and I have an answer, at least a partial one for me. I found one of the "segments" I had been listening for near the end the track: Mystery Man. The track is listed as being 4 minutes, 40 seconds long, and at least one of the "segments" I thought was missing is a piece probably less than 20 seconds long near the end of the track. The artist is Terje Rypdal. I'm trotting off now to see what he has recorded under his own name. Good luck to you.
