Saw it on the news this morning Colin. The damage did not look too severe, broken windows from the blast etc. Must have been very frightening for those on the ground. I believe the last one like this was the beginning of the 1900s.

Yep, when a continent is over 10 million square miles it will have a disproportionate share of meteorite strikes - Lets just be thankful that the Moon is in just such a position and angle, this so that it takes the brunt of meteor strikes instead of the Earth.

With their ritual human sacrifice it did not matter what they worshiped - Their doom was a foregone conclusion............

I heard this on the news, it must have been awful for the people involved. I am just grateful nobody was killed.

With the meteor traveling at 30 km/s most, if not all air-defense missile batteries are absolutely useless...Yes GrandDame Margaret, thank God no one was killed...

Scientists have recreated the path of the Russian meteor I wonder how many more are waiting for us?

Yep, one does wonder - And now the question that begs to be asked is: Why not a DEW-Line to warn of approaching meteors? DEW-Line aka Distant Early Warning-Line:

The DEW Line was a system created for the detection of ballistic missiles, enemy aircraft and the like during the Cold War.

Now there is PAVE PAWS aka Precision Acquisition Vehicle Entry Phased Array Warning System. Maybe a networked array of antennas that straddles the Equator...? Of course, then one needs a networked array of rockets with kinetic warheads to "take out" the incoming offender...

You have caught me late at night and unprepared but I read in google science that such an early warning system has been set up unfortunately I can not remember the name but it does put things in perspective as far as the so called "man made global warming" fiasco is concerned.

I believe a lot of the meteors are spotted by amateurs who then relay the information to the relevant authorities. The good side of the last meteor strike is that the pieces are now being sold for substantial amounts of money, running into thousands. Rumour has it that the first Bowie knife was made from metal from a meteor. True or false, anyone know?

I watched a Youtube collage of video, lots of it going by and seeing areas light up,
but this one looks like it caught the end.
However, I think it's seeing that Yugo is running in wintertime that makes this dubious for JHC.

Yeah, those poor Central Americans, living so close to the fountain of youth,
making islands of vegetables in mud bottomed lakes of fish, harvesting,
over 25 million in the peninsula, down to under 2 million five years after Jesuits visited,
yeah, slaughtering the losing sports team,
building stairs aligned with cosmic forces, just to throw heartless bodies down them,
making broaches out of solid gold for all posterity,
that when enlarged and equipped with motors fly like jet aircraft,
cities with large stones when joined formed a spine for magnetic aircraft takeoff,
yeah, you should feel sorry for the Inuit of northern Canada,
who fled the continent to avoid that nuclear devestation, thousand of years ago,
so they could continue living in a pure world.

The Bhagavad Gita, over 4,500 years old, describes aircraft fighting in the sky,
with a thermo-nuclear explosion in the middle of India. Visit the crater.

Now if there were some plans to build a lunar-based DEW-Line, then maybe, just maybe, existing rocket platforms could be "lofted" to "take out" the incoming "projectile"...'Cause at 30 Km/s things happen very quickly.............

John I had to do a google search to understand what you were on about so 'long live the Yugo'

Our 82 year old next door neighbour, Mr. Tytar, a Russian refuge,
ordered a Yugo the first year they came out.
I'm sure if he was younger he would have got in fights back then,
driving that around town. Back then Ford and Chev were cold war local factories.
The neighbours talked about him because he washed the motor every Saturday morning,
what became a rallying point for most of the guys.
