Thanks for the recordings, John.

I have also found some jazz oboe recordings. In order to listen to one of them go here, click on CD/Extraits,
scroll down to Coyoakan « Changes », Arts d'Oise productions 1999 and then click on On The Reed.

Gord, In my book that's an impeccable 10/10. As you said, I never knew Mangione could blow a horn like that; I only remember him from the kitsch muzak he produced in the later Seventies. I should have known I'd like this piece when I saw it was promoted by Cannonball Adderly Presentations. As a matter of fact, the opening of Mangione's riff sounded a little bit like Nat Adderly on his cornet to me. Great find! And now here is something that is definitely hard edged bop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=H_uO_UbBEAg

My old mate Harry would turn in his grave, but I (who doesnt really know what "hard bop" means - bop once meant only Charlie Parker to me),
find myself slowleeeey starting to admit that this sort of music may have something after-all. Even (grit my teeth) Coltrane.
Who knows Steve -you may convert me yet.

Hey John, thats's a 8.5/10 for Rogers and his orch.
Btw, this otaku guy (or gal) seems to have one hell of a jazz collection. So nice of him to post it on YT.
