i.e. Biscuits..I have many receipes for them .Here are 2 most common.

Baking power biscuits.................... 2 cups all purpose flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder , 1 teaspoon salt , 1/4 cup shortening,
3/4 cup milk.

heat oven to 450. Measure flour, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl. Cut in shortening thoroughly, until mixture looks like meal. Stir in almost all of the milk. If dough is not pliable, add just enough milk to make a soft, puffy easy to roll dough.. nead and roll out to about 1/2 inch. place on ungreased baking sheet for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.

Buttermilk biscuits ( more southern style) ....Substitute buttermilk for the milk;decrease baking powder to 2 teaspoons and add 1/4 teaspoon soda to flour mixture ( if usinf self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt and increase buttermilk to 1 cup )

Enjoy with some great homemade jelly, jam and fresh butter..wash down with coffee or tea..hell even coke will work..LOL

Grilled cheese sandwiches with some spicy sauce. And ketchup. And a pickle.

Didn't eat supper to balance it out.

No use baking bisquits unless you can dip them in Swiss Chalet bar-b-que sauce.
I used to get a half chicken for a meal, but once I realized I could get an extra gravy and buns,
for free,
I cut back to a quarter chicken, started buttering buns and waving them through the gravy.
Totally tasty.

Spent the last 4 days in the big medical repair shop, needed work on the atmospheric processing units, they got a bit blocked up, hence 4 days of lurvly ..not...orspiddle food. Breakfast cereals I assume they put milk on them in the kitchens way down in the bowels of the building, hence by the time they reach the patients the cereals are a soggy mess and have soaked up all the milk anyway; the medications screwed my blood sugar levels almost off the scale, from under 5 to 13.5 so forced to use sweeteners, mostly aspartane or saccharin based ..yeeeeukk, not sucralose - so I found them almost uneatable, "toast" bore too much resemblance to charcoal.

Some other meals were edible, better than when I was last in about 5 years ago, flavours are now noticeable, but still need attention to textures etc, so tasty pap instead of tasteless pap.

I finally told them today, I feel good enough to go home, maybe not completely fit, but if I stay any longer I'll be a basket case, no books to read, no TV or radio, just lying on the bed coughing, staring at the ceiling or walls, bed not long enough and uncomfortable so about 3.5 hours sleep total since Monday, at night very loud banging door right outside my room, once woken by that the call alarm beeper 1s Beep, 1s silent, 1s beep 9s silent repeated until a nurse had investigated call, nurse to patient ratio seemed about 1:4 plus an orderly/gofer, telephones ringing; plus, in between all that, staff seemed to discuss their recent lives with frequent laughter. Should sleep like a babe tonight, alone in a 4'6" bed with memory foam mattress and pillows.

On top of that during the day, a poor old lady, probably 75+ thin as a rake in one of those split up the back gowns, wandering in and out of peoples rooms, gawping over the shoulders of staff trying to work, and they would occasionally lead her back to the ladies half of the floor. We caring male patients suggested various courses of treatment for her, ranging from ball and chain, to clipping one of those devices used in some stores to set off alarms when taken past doorway detectors, using them to trigger lock down on the area she tries to enter, or maybe a set of fluffy nylon bondage cuffs to fasten her to her bed?

Got some new inhalers to try out and 2 boxes of antibiotics, should rattle well with the rest of my meds.

AND PROPERLY SERVED WEETABIX FOR BREKKIE TOMORROW, with a cup of Latte, I had to drink milk most of the time the coffee was like mud, the tea stewed so juice or milk for me.

Sorry to hear about your "holiday" Mike. To me two of the biggest advantages to private health care are the food (always very good in quality and choice) and the fact that you actually get the chance to cleep at night. Even the small specialist NHS wards I have been in guarentee you a lack of privacy and sleep

Did this rather longer, slightly tongue in cheek version on another forum

Just had best part of 4 days in the big medical repair facility, some tubes in the atmospheric processing plant needed attention.

OK they sorted out the infection fine, staff were great , but I think the organisation and attention to detail could have been a lot better.

I had to demand they let me out before I went stir crazy! As it was an emergency admission I went in with only pyjamas, vest, socks and slippers and some of my meds, no toiletries, razor, comb, not being that mobile initially, I started to feel a little unkempt shall we say, at times approaching rank as the heating level was a bit on the warm side.

Daytime routine didn't allow for much rest let alone sleep, temp, blood pressure, blood sugar, pulse etc about every 2 hours, medication, drinks trolley - coffee > read mud< , tea stewed, so I drank plain milk or orange juice, food has improved slightly since my last stay 5 years ago, now it's pap with some flavour as against flavourless pap. They seem to be able to screw up cereals really well, suspect they add a carefully calculated amount of milk in the kitchen to the corn flakes, rice or whatever such that the milk is soaked up completely and you receive a bowl of soggy congealed uneatable mess, Weetabix suffers worst from this treatment.

Nowt to read except the admissions notes which got a bit boring after the first few hours of study. One TV in the room, over the other bed, (wouldn't have used it anyway, astronomical daily rate) no radio. A newspaper trolley did come round, but I've never found anything of interest in the daily media tripe no mater how it is disseminated, press or TV is 90% crap.

Beds are too short for me, especially when the head needed to be raised to aid breathing meaning the body slides down further aggravating the lack of length. Comfort level of mattress and pillows somewhat dire to one used to memory foam.

Night time tended toward bedlam, the main doors to the area were immediately outside my room, closed at night but in use often, with a very strong return spring with no damping, resulting in a triple series of deafening, room shaking bangs, on the best night this only happened about 3 times, but one night I stopped counting after 4 crashes in 40 minutes; once these doors had done their main task of ensuring one was awake, the call alarm beep, telephones and staff chatter/laughter with added drawer and cupboard banging and chairs scraping the floor served to continue one's wakeful state, any lucky fall back to sleep was soon negated by that door again. Closing the room door reduced the alarm and phone sound, but meant temperature rose needing use of a fan noisy and got too cold after a while and/or open window then probs with wind and rain

Result I estimate a total of about 3.5 to 4 hours sleep total from Monday morning to Thursday afternoon when I escaped after an ultimatum, "let me out or I'll self discharge"

I didn't find out until the last morning that the bed foot could be extended! That door could have been silenced considerably with either adjustment to the closing mech or at least some sort of sound absorbing buffer, even a decent draught excluder beading would help. Alarms and phones could be reduced volume after say 10 pm. Some form of lighting control from near the bed head would be good, not just a wall mounted bank of switches about 8 foot from me and probably 15 foot for the other bloke in the room, even the alarm call button was not illuminated.

Got home, got clean, got dressed, ordered Chinese meal delivery. Choice of pleasant music, local paper to read. BLISS.

Slept nearly 8 hours with only one nature call about 5.30, got up about 10am, Respiratory support team member arrived as I was getting dressed, let her in, spent about 45 minutes having blood pressure etc taken, chest listened to, instruction and practice on using new inhalers; finally able to see her out, (noticed in so doing first roses have come out while I was in dock) took normal daily meds plus 3 temporary additions, then

BREAKFAST, Tesco Value weetabix clone with right amount of milk warmed just so in Microwave and a cup of Cafe Latte.

Thought for future reference, have an emergency bag packed at al times, include a portabe radio and headphones, reading matter, ear plugs as well as toiletries and a change of clothes.

Further thoughts, get GP to submit request to local council for upgrading band for admission to sheltered accomodation, prepare to get rid of this pile of bricks I'm in.

Rewrite will to remove certain vulture type offspring who only make any contact if they think there maybe summat in it for them, like "Can I have the car/PC/TV/Cameras/any or all of the above. Had calls from at least 2 within 2 hours of leaving home in the ambulance, neither heard from in 4 years

This is the fourth day of my diet and I have been eating one small piece of buttered toast for breakfast and another in the evening. This is so I have something to take my pills with. I have lost half a stone. I known there will be some bounce back in my weight when I start eating again but there will be a net loss in weight. It also allows the stomach to shrink so you do not eat so much, and gets you out of the habit of eating between meals. Works for me. Next week I will tackle the smoking.

Pasta and Tuna. In an attempt to ward off hunger pangs. I have now lost, and kept off another stone, so am feeling quite please with myself. Thats a total loss of three and a half stone (49 pounds) One more stone to go to achieve a realistic weight. Then I will have a go at the smoking. And no, I will not put it back on.
