Frederik Magle is a Danish composer, organist and pianist whose work moves between concert music, liturgical music, film and cross-genre collaboration. His music was first performed publicly when he was eight. Since then, he has written for royal and national occasions, and his works have been performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Royal Danish Orchestra and ensembles and soloists internationally. His music is characterised by thematic clarity, free tonality and a strong sense of narrative, often bringing symphonic and liturgical traditions into contact with improvisation and influences beyond classical music. As an organist and pianist, he appears both in recital and in performances of his own music, with improvisation central to his work. Since 2017 he has been organist, composer, and director of music at St Paul's Church in Copenhagen, where he writes for the liturgical cycle and performs regularly.
