Ladies and jazz.

I found that audiences at Classical concerts and at Jazz Clubs were pretty evenly split, in our music group we finished up banning the Ladies as they talked more than harked.

Hello JHC,
Do you think that all the talk suggested some lack of interest in listening?
I have a strong suspicion that audience equality in numbers does not necessarily imply equality in interest. After all, I always take my wife to concerts!
Eric.

Undoubtedly, they treated it as a purely social occasion they were quite while the music was being played but in between the talk was overpowering.

As far as classical concerts audiences are concerned the Women that I know were music lovers but in the Jazz clubs which is going back to my teen years and twenties perhaps they were after something other than the music

It would be interesting to obtain true statistics on the % of males and females who truly
enjoy jazz. In my view the figure would be less than 10% and probably much lower.
But hold on! Even then,- what type of jazz are we discussing?
Trad.; mainstream; modern?; bop; acid; and so on.
Personally there are certain categories that I cant stand myself and I'm sure this
applies to most of the forum.
With regard to my wife, she enjoys swing and pianists like Erroll Garner, so I'm happy
to leave it at that.

Why is this do you think? It has always intrigued me. I suppose it must be that the part of the brain that men use to appreciate jazz is occupied by something else in females, like the love of making bread puddings and buying new shoes!!! (Hope I don't offend the ladies of this forum; there's certainly no offence intended! Just joking really).

This is not far off the mark Eric just look at the classical world, there are very few female composers and those few are not IMO good composers, but as musicians they more than hold their own with the men, Nature has made us different for a reason the sooner that is accepted the better.

Very adept on piano, but I'd like to hear her playing something more tuneful.
I'll check out her other stuff on YouTube and on Spotify if she has a presence there,
