I am trying to identify a specific JSB piece which I believe to be a Chorale Prelude. I first knew it, strangely, as a track on Charlie Haden's Private Collection CDs, where it is attributed to Bach but simply called 'Etude'. And then this week, at a funeral I attended, it was played on the organ as the final piece before the beginning of the service - but it seems a bit soon to start chasing the family for details !
I think it may be in G, or at least an adjacent key. The opening phrase is
3 (4,5) 4 3 2 (3,1) 2
where the bracketed notes are half the value of the rest.
Does anyone recognise it, please?
Sincerely
Ian Graham
