Hi Gord.

Lets go mad and start naming male jazz singers.

( Personally I feel that the females were exactly that, singers, while many male jazz singers were primarily instrumentalists (think Louis, and Big T).

Why not?

Here's a few:

Michael Buble, Tonny Bennett, Louis Armstrong, George Benson, Jamie Cullum, Peter Cincotti, Harry Connick Jr. and Bobby McFerrin,

Hi Margaret,
Is it his jazz piano playing you like or his singing?
He did sing scatty sort of stuff with his trio but of course his biggest vocal hits were super top of the pops stuff.
(Personally for me Nat could do no wrong either way.)

Okay! Get ready! There's a new female jazz vocalist out there,
and most of the female names mentioned here have been referenced in her publicity.
She's from St. Catharines, less than twenty miles away,
and yes, she's a stunning beauty, big hair, with an entourage, lots of male followers,
with pictures all over. But I haven't heard her, just seen her.
Nikki Yanovsky.

And after this afternoon and evening, you can count me, John Watt, as a male jazz vocalist.
Yes, it's come to this. Singing, and not playing guitar. Drats!
I might be the only male jazz singer who dances while he sings. I gotta do something.

Hi John,
Do you mean Nikki Yanofski - she seems to fit your description and is definitely from Canada from the info available on Spotify.
sorry but I dont have enough of her music on Spotify to decide on her status as a jazz singer.

Cheers (another john)

OLDUDE! You're here right now. As you may suspect,
this doesn't happen to me here very often myself.
And I do type off the top of my head, so thanks for correcting my spelling.
She's supposed to look better up close than in pictures.

I see liking young singers, and musicians, as being into their musical direction,
but liking them more for the mistakes and immaturity they're not showing.
Call it styling cues if you like, but it takes experience to get really professional,
and find your own voice.

And I waited for a reply, but I gotta go, five to four.
That's not "Twenty-five or six to four", but close.

This thread seems to have stalled.
Lets just think any female singers - here are 3 Helens
Forrest, Merril and Ward.

Can any one list six female singers with a first name beginning with the letter J?

Well that worked fast. The results above had me straight into Spotify to check out the 5 ladies I'm not familiar with.

Thanks for the link to your blog Art - I found it incredible that you find the time to provide such an involved and fascinating share of your mind.

The only J's extra to the above in my playlists are Jeanie Lambe and Judy Garland.
Has anyone found others?

Thanks Art for introducing me to Jane Duboc,
I think she's terrific and her CD with Gerry Mulligan - "Paraiso" is on my To Get list
