I've been discussing this possibility with our esteemed Krummhorn and now want to throw the discussion open.
The basic suggestion is that a composer, of mainly organ works, is chosen and that we feature things like biographical notes, list of works, youtube renditions where possible, discography, scores, recordings by members (actual or virtual instruments).
My initial thoughts are, where possible, to choose a composer whose anniversary falls in the month; when there are not many works by a composer we include near contemporaries.
Points for discussion:-
What anniversaries, 100,125.150, 175 .......375,400 or 100, 150, 200 etc?
Near contemporaries - do we limit to those from same country, teachers/students of,
Do we limit audio tracks to organ only, organ and other keyboards, do we include organ/harpsichord concertos, organ/harpsichord with other solo instruments?
I would suggest a start in September, this gives some time to research and hopefully for some to record works.
Composer William Boyce (300th) 10 voluntaries, 12 Sonatas originally for 2 violins and harpschord but there are arrangements for organ and trumpet which could probably be further arranged for organ only?
Near contemporaries William Walond, Henry Heron, John Blow, Maurice Greene suggestions ????????????
October Franz Liszt, 200th?
November Ignazio Cirri 300th ?
December ??
January 2012 John Stanley 300th - 30 voluntaries, 12 concertos.
Discuss ..............
