but was J.L a bit of a hypocrite singing "Imagine no possessions" while sitting at the grand piano in the ballroom of his mansion?
The only thing I'd add to that (admittedly whilst in a flippant mood) is that there wasn't much else
but the piano in that particular large ballroom. Also not forgetting that many rock stars of that generation were often told by their accountants to spend up big with their earnings for tax reasons. Ye gods I wish my accountant could tell me something like that ...
Many of them spent time out of the country for tax purposes too (Is that what was sometimes referred to as "tax exile"?) A system I've never understood being from the antipodes, but for which I am grateful since my most favourite Yes album was recorded by the group whilst in Switzerland during a "tax year").
And that gets us back to Douglas Adams :grin: when Ford caught up with Hotblack Desiato in the Restaurant at the End of the Universe:
"He's spending a year dead for tax reasons!"
Damn what I wouldn't give for a year off right now (but that's possibly a bit extreme).
My train of thought is in danger of derailing but I hope it makes it to the next station. Allow me to toss in this tenuous link:
What does "Graveyard Shift" have to do with "Dead Ringers"? (it's always intrigued me that story
)
