Origin for organ

Here is an excerpt of the beginning of "Origin" for organ, recorded on the organ in the 1000 years old Jørlunde Church - a pipe organ build and voiced after my own specifications. My "dream" organ so to speak :)

Origin is the first track on my double-album "Like a Flame" which will be released in the first half of November 2010 on Proprius Records. It will be available in record stores in most of the world, as well as on iTunes, Amazon, etc. More info on availability coming soon...

Great sound from the organ.. very nice full rounded sound. A progressive piece I assume.. Thanks for posting as I enjoyed it.

Thanks, Bill! Yes, the organ sounds fantastic - wait till you hear it uncompressed (the sound on youtube is somewhat compressed, but gives a decent impression).

I'm not sure if you by progressive means the style/tonality or are referring to the progression of the piece? (the video says "to be continued" in the end, but that's just a way to say this was just an excerpt). But if you mean the style, I agree that the tonality and character of the pieces on the CD can be described "progressive" in the sense they have some "sharper edges" and more free tonality than some of my other music.

Sounds absolutely terrific - I'm sure most people would think they were listening to a much larger instrument. It's a triumph of quality over quantity. Congratulations, Frederik. Does the title "Origin" have any special significance? I'm guessing origin of the universe as the images and music have a sort of "cosmic" feel.

Great music, Frederik (tusind tak), I makes me want to hear what the softer stops sound like, for example delicately employed in the wonderful trio sonatas BWV 525 to 530.

Thank you! I'm so glad you consider this a triumph of quality over quantity, as that is exactly what my goal was - to create an organ with such uncompromising tonal qualities that the size in itself would be mostly irrelevant. And I do think we succeeded, Frobenius, Ole Høyer (Frobenius' voicer) and I.

"Origin" indeed has a meaning: the origin of creation. The explosion of energy necessary to create. Not "just" the universe, but also something as tiny and relatively insignificant as the explosion happening in our own minds when we are creating.

This is the second time I've absorbed this video and I have to comment.
More than just an ordinary music video experience, are the unexpected new dynamics.
What may be allowing more for me as a listener than those who speak Danish,
is the fact I only comprehend my Canadian English.
I don't understand a word anyone says, or what font and graphics are displayed.
This lets my ears transcend the vocabulary and lets me listen to the whole as a tonal piece.
Those are always the dialogues, but that fades into background, maybe, noises.
So the subtle downplaying before scenes switch to a character speaking,
especially when the untitled Frederik Magle tamps down soft and breathy,
and the dynamics are picked up by the background noise of the character talking.

This also lets my ears break the language barrier, and experience a new dynamic.
I'm tempted to think your production value was the heavy, finale tonal chords,
the most complex build-up of volume and tones, but not sounding climactic.
And then splicing in to the jet engine and the woman talking.
That was musically exciting. I was hoping you'd return to those same sounds.
But as the scene of the jet and woman faded in dynamics,
when you were shown again you were what, playing quadruplets with both hands,
sounding light but energetic still, and then you returned to the previous heavy sonics.
I thought that was great too. You even seemed restless yourself, waiting for that.

I almost regret typing this, but I'm getting into this video the most.
No, it's not a cathedral organ, I don't remember seeing bass pedals,
but the combination of the untitled Frederik Magle's keyboard atmospheres,
the vocalizations and jet sounds and other background noises,
all sustain a musical journey phasing in and out with the cinematic display.
And there wasn't even any percussion. That would boom boom that up big time. Maybe.

You should put this up there on your home page, where it was when I first saw it, I think.
Wait a sec. Am I thinking I'm the only one getting into this just because of language?
What was it that the untitled Frederik Magle said about duality?
Aaaah.... maybe now I'm getting it, a little more.
Last year the influence of this domain saw me get a Thomas organ.
I've always jammed on pianos in Cm, so I got into it right away.
Now this new perception of dynamics is going to turn my musical course.

At first, when I saw and heard the plane without any music,
I was thinking, Band, James Band. But this was a far far more beautiful thing.
Thank you again for making your domain a truly musical sight.
