the poem thread

Hi everyone, in the present time we all seem to be very critical (myself included) perhaps cynical might be a better word. However it doesn't hurt us to take a long hard look at ourselves and try to be more charitable sometimes.
Hope this poem will make us all reconsider some of our judgements.

SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Sometimes its good to look inside ourselves to find that we
Are not the perfect people that we thought ourselves to be.
Masterminding criminals perhaps we will not find
But there are little crimes somehow, we carry in our mind.
Too swift to judge another who has fallen by the way
Instead of seeking reasons behind their souls decay.
They may not find it easy, living on the edge of fear
Afraid to ask for help from those who turn a deafened ear.
Beaten by the system that was put in place to care
Because bureaucracy is soulless and it is not always fair.
It does not have a beating heart, just forms that must be filled.
Unable then to offer the compassion it has killed.
But we as individuals can rectify such faults
By offering a helping hand just like our Master taught.
The tiny mote inside another's eye that we can see,
Is insignificant compared to the self-righteous ME.
Judge not my friend for when at last, ourselves we have to face,
Pray final judgement will be tempered by "Redeeming Grace"

Lovely poem Sylvia and nice to see you back.

Of course this poem does not apply to me, as I am practically perfect in every way.

One of my favorite poems ( you would never have guessed!)

DUCKS DITTY

All along the backwater
Through the rushes tall
Ducks are a-dabbling
Up tails all

Ducks tails, drakes tails
Yellow feet a-quiver
Yellow bills all out of site
Busy in the river.

Slushy green undergrowth
Where the roach swim
Here we keep our larder
Cool and full and dim

Everyone for what he likes
We like to be
Heads down, tails up, Dabbling free

High in the blue above
Swifts whirl and call
We are a-dabbling
Up tails all!

Hi Teddy

That is an appropriate poem for you, I had forgotten it.

A Strange Wild Song

By Lewis Carroll

He thought he saw an Elephant
That practised on a fife:
He looked again, and found it was
A letter from his wife.
"At length I realize," he said,
"The bitterness of life!"

He thought he saw a Buffalo
Upon the chimney-piece:
He looked again, and found it was
His Sister's Husband's Niece.
"Unless you leave this house," he said,
"I'll send for the police!"

He thought he saw a Rattlesnake
That questioned him in Greek:
He looked again, and found it was
The Middle of Next Week.
"The one thing I regret," he said,
"Is that it cannot speak!"

He thought he saw a Banker's Clerk
Descending from the bus:
He looked again, and found it was
A Hippopotamus.
"If this should stay to dine," he said,
"There won't be much for us!"

He thought he saw a Kangaroo
That worked a Coffee-mill:
He looked again, and found it was
A Vegetable-Pill.
"Were I to swallow this," he said,
"I should be very ill!"

He thought he saw a Coach-and-Four
That stood beside his bed:
He looked again, and found it was
A Bear without a Head.
"Poor thing," he said, "poor silly thing!
It's waiting to be fed!"

I feel a great affinity for bees and will happily let them crawl about on me. I hope one day to have my own hives. This is another of my favourite poems.

The Bee Boys Song.

Bees! Bees! Hark to your bees
Hide from your neighbours as much as you please
But all that has happened, to us you must tell
Or else we will give you no honey to sell

A maiden in her glory
Upon her wedding day
Must tell her bees the story
Or else they'll fly away
Fly away - die away
Dwindle down and leave you
But if you don't decieve your bees
Your bees will never leave you.

Marriage, birth or burying
News across the seas
All your sad or merry in
You must tell the bees
Tell 'em coming in an' out
Where the Fanneres fan
'Cause the bess are justabout
As curious as a man.

Don't you wait where trees are
When the lightenings play
Nor don't you hate where bees are
Or else they'll pine away
Pine away - dwine away
Anything to leave you
But if you never grieve your bees
Your bees will never grieve you.

Ah yes, I seem to remember that name.

This is why I don't want a pig as a pet.

My Pig Won't Let Me Watch TV

My pig won't let me watch TV.
It's totally unfair.
He watches anything he wants
but doesn't ever share.

I never get to watch cartoons
or anything like that.
He's busy watching farming shows.
I should have got a cat.

I should have got a goldfish
or a guinea pig or goat.
Instead, I've got this pig
who's always hogging the remote.

I will take your word for it Teddy.

The Best of Friends

There's nothing as nice
As a new Teddy Bear.
To tickle and cuddle
And take everywhere
To share all your secrets,
Your laughter and tears
To keep by your side
Through seasons and years.
There's nothing as nice
As a new Teddy Bear
Except for an old one
With memories to share.

Here is my poem about Spring.

It’s time to welcome Springtime
To banish away the gloom
Enjoy the milder weather
See the daffodils in bloom

The lighter evenings call you
Come out and have some fun
Watch our nature changing
Until the day is done

The Cherry trees are blooming
Their petals will gently fall
Green shoots are slowly sprouting
Such a wander to us all

Hear the ducks a quacking
As they glide along the stream
Listen to the cuckoo
As in a wondrous dream

Make the most of Springtime
Enjoy it while you may
For Summer will be coming
On a not too distant day
