I just recorded that one piece, and from time to time I compile my recordings to a CD. Our recording equipment is always in place and ready to go - the mics are suspended from the ceiling and the recorder is in the organist's room beside the organ. Just push "Rec" and let go :) Very convenient - I can record whenever I get the inspiration.

I have a lot of similar (unknown but nice) pieces on my CD's. Maybe on the next CD I'll include the Batiste too. From time to time I also add music to my homepages at http://www.hakanpaa.net/hearmeplay.htm as that is a lot better way to get "audience" than selling organ CD's...

The recording device is Tascam CDRW-750 and the mic preamp is some cheap 4-channel Behringer basic model.

Here's a mp3 of me playing one of the local Organs.
It's the only tracker organ out of the 3 I play now.

The piece is by Mozart - and I apologise if you hear any mistakes :eek:

Mods, would it be worth making this thread a Sticky? I think it could be quite a valuable and entertaining resource for quite a few of us (I'm certainly enjoying it!).

Great topic and some wonderful examples of the King of Instruments ... Anyone is invited to post their sound clip - we won't grade on errors ... let's hear what your pipes sound like.

Here are a few more from me as I'd forgotten I was on a CD recording some years back showcasing a few of Adelaide's larger and more enjoyable instruments (the most enjoyable I've already posted here :) )

1. Brahms Chorale Prelude "Herzlich thut mich erfreuen" on the Hill, Norman & Beard organ in St Peter's (Anglican) Cathedral. More info on the St Peters organ is here.

2. Alain Fantaisie No.2 on the Casavant organ in the University of Adelaide's Elder Hall. More info on the Elder Hall organ is here.

3. Pärt Annum per annum on the Eagles, Fincham & Hobday, Dodd, Roberts, Stephens (!) organ in Pilgrim Uniting Church. More info on this rather large beast is here.

There is another track on the disc showing off more of the St Peter's organ but I don't want to post it without the say-so of the guy who played it (because it wasn't me that time). But certainly with the Alain and Pärt pieces, you get to hear quite a few different registrations.

Hope there's something here for folk to enjoy.

I used to have a nice disc of Arvo Part organ pieces but regretably it was amongst the bunch that was stolen and it was before the days of "ripping" and "mp3-ing." The opening ostinato in the score actually calls for the blower to be switched off to affect a descrescendo (of sorts) but because it was not doable with that organ, I opted - as you can hear of course - for a stop decrescendo. Musically, I feel it works better anyway and I did the same thing on the wonderful Town Hall instrument several months later (I was also happy to discover that I'd apparently given the piece it's first Australian public performance!). The Pilgrim organ, despite having had so many different hands in it, is a supremely versatile instrument, I mean, how could it not be with that specification eh?

The St Peter's organ is very English (housed in a very English building, the closest we have to European acoustics in this benighted city) but handles surprisingly well a good deal of the repertoire. Have always loved those Brahms Chorale Preludes, but never more so than when I got to play a couple of them for Daniel Roth on the St Sulpice organ which was both :eek: and :grin::grin::grin: (not to mention :angel:)

Hi To All !
My God what I was missing here !! I just saw the post....

I 'll download all of these works now to eagerly listen to them ! I just got with me in Skopelos only the Toccata (565) recorded in my own "Greek"(as rightly David called) VPorgan and completed, I didn't manage to finnish the fuga when in Athens (I have some issues with my left hand/ped in a few bars I have to workout), so I can upload it in a day or two here (I have to compress from wav to mp3).

GREAT performances from all of you my friends !
I did a cd with all your attachments and called it "MIMF ORGANISTS BEST" and I'll always have it with me.:)

Just to add a little to your efforts I send you my trials & progress in BWV596 played in my...."Greek" composite VPOrgan (Italo-Dutch pipes in a British Cathedral..:grin:). I still work on Fugue & final part....:crazy:

Lovely sound for a VPO. At the risk of being pedantic though, does it count as "your local pipe organ" if you can actually take it with you?! :) (Still, I guess it doesn't get much more local than that!).

What sort of controller keyboards are driving it by the way?

Very nice sound from your vpo. I thought the "Largo e piccato" was composed by Wilhelm Fredemann Bach. At least my copy of this piece edited by Dr. William C. Carl in a collection" Ecclesiae Organum" states. Nice playing also Panos

This is Vivaldi's concerto grosso in Dm as trascribed for the organ by JSBach, my source is Breithoff & Haertel edition of Concertos, Passacaglia and Fantasias. There are many infos in this edition , even photos of the original manuscripts. I tried to play the allegro reading JSBach's manuscript...Madness:grin:

Considering we (Ntalikieris666 & me) are in Athens and getting to the real thing is difficult - not even think of recording with..:crazy: - I believe you can allow us to send our efforts with our digital/VP organs...

Nevertheless I discovered, there's a union or something like that of the pipe organ friends/fans and they organize some concerts in the German Lutheran Church in Athens (!:)). I'll go in September and see what's goin' on and what kinda organ is there. From what I hear is one with left and right position of the pipes and having the console in the middle. Of course I'll send photos;)
I only know the one(tracker) I played in the Anglican Church of St.Paul, the one in St.Denis Catholic and the BIG one at the Athens Megaron (see Nick's photo in his profile).Must be another one in the Evangelist Church too.

So, yes my "Greek" composite is very.."Local" short of speak, indeed resident of our living room in the center of Athens - see the photo.
Is the best I can do for the time being and I tell you is hard playing with these pedal sticks ! : on the other hand I fantasise I play with one of the old organs witch had these sticks for pedalboard. Also one of my composite components is Brescia St.Carlo 1600 Antegniatti organ witch has excactly 20 notes pedalboard as my toaster.Very conveniant:rolleyes:

I believe Nick & me have things to do in the forthcomming winter...
