• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

Free Sets For GrandOrgue INDEX

Ghekorg7 (Ret)

Rear Admiral Appassionata (Ret)
Hello to all GrandOrgue fans !

I tried to gather all available and known free sets for GrandOrgue in an INDEX for helping reference.
I worked long enough to download everything that is listed below (I had an invaluable help from Graham on a few hard to find sets today), but still maybe something is missing.
So, I call all of you who are interested to check and fill in your findings and this way we can make this Index complete.
Sets for GO have the extension .organ (as HW1 & MyOrgan) and work in all versions of "her" v.1, v.2 & multi.
So, here it is :

1. Blanchet 1man C1~F5 Harpsichord 1720
2. " " G0~C5 "
3. " " G0~F5 "
4. " 2man C1~F5 "
5. " " G0~C5 "
6. " " G0~F5 "
7. Clavecimbel 3,0 with pipe-tune prog incl(is Bezemer 1981 Harpsi first ed)
8. Epinette 1man Spinet (18th century)
9. Ghend Beiaard - all chimes and bells.....
10. Happy Birthday organ 1m/ped
11. Petit Italien 1man C1~F5 small harpsichord (18th century)
12. " " G0~F5 "
13. Orgue de Salon 2man/ped
14. Pibrac reduced set v.1,o 2man/ped
15. Prudhoe Methodist Organ 2m/ped
16. Smecno Mini 2m/ped
17. St. Augustines original 2m/ped
18. " with generals 2m/ped
19. Stiehr-Mockers extc 30a 2m/ped
20. " " 60a "
21. " Extended(newer) 2m/ped
22. " Original " "
23. " rdc 30a 2m/ped
24. P.Taskin egal 2man C1~F5 Harpsichord (19th century)
25. " " F0~F5 "
26. Organo Espanol 1 octava corta C12
27. " octava corta
28. " 1 tec C12
29. " tec
30. " 1 C12
31. Organo Espanol 1 ped C12
32 " ped
33. Organo Espanol ..... not available at the moment
34. St. Stevens 2m/ped
35. St.Mary's .....not available at the moment
36. St. Anne's....no longer available (now in HW3)
37. St.Michael Neckargartach ...... Prospectum free download - no longer available
38. Buree Church, Hammarbergs 3m/p organ - I played for 3 hours yesterday night... this thing is a real beauty and an invaluable addition to the growing GO free sets collection.
39. Grote Kerk Wildervank 2m/p Organ - Went for low flyin' recconaissance and I spotted a newcomer for GrandOrgue, with some problems in installation, but still a new and nice organ from Holland.

Also keep in mind that almost all GO sets are dry, so it is a must to add some kind of reverberation to fully enjoy these excellent sets.
I strongly recommend convolution reverb with impulse responces and the way to add it to G.O. is fully detailed (tutorial) by Graham. Just go to the site you downloaded GrandOrgue v.2 (see thread here) and see chapter "add reverb"

Free "convolvers" Index :
1. Reverberate LE
2. Hybrid Reverb
3. " large library
4. Freeverb 3
5. SIR (best sound but big fixed latency- good for remix only-no live play)
6. Free Impulse responce library (to get the environment you like)

Another useful thing is this pipe organ tune (included in clavecimbel). Works like the one in HW3 but better, 'cause you can tune in every way you like. I use Lehman-Bach temperament made with it.

OK. Lets make it complete !

Cheers

Looks like the Enigma set is no longer available, I downloaded it a few months ago and have used parts of it to extend my SM set further.

I've done a Google search for it and got links to Al Morse's site but Sample sets no longer feature.

Mike you're right.
Al Morse's site says everything about Enigma but doesn't allow any downloads of it, the appropriate square is blank.
Mat asked me about elsewere here and I offered him to send it via mail if he wants.
When I downloed it 6 months ago Al had a suplemantary file to get cressendo ped to work.

But let me ask you something and anyone who may know : I thought Enigma is a HW3 set, was it for sometime available for HW1/G.O. ?

If it is so, we must add it to the above index, as I did with St.Stevens, even if it is not available today, as is the Spaniard and it's a shame we no longer can have it for GO as a great alternative to S.Mockers.

our friend JayR got workin' with Enigma, but with his own DF especialy built for GO. As is your excellent work with stop extension of St.Mockers. This is,though, diferent from having a dedicated GO set available for free download.

Hey everyone,

I think I found the place where you can download the Engima set. Try here:

http://hauptwerkhelp.info/free_sample_sets.html

But let me ask you something and anyone who may know : I thought Enigma is a HW3 set, was it for sometime available for HW1/G.O. ?

As for your question, Panos - I thought it would work with GO but it doesn't. I believe it has the .xml extension. Anyway, I had to download the free edition of HW yesterday in order to get this sample set to work. Now, I'm not sure if the standard HW download includes any predefined samples, but when I opened HW and loaded the sample set I saw St. Anne's, Moseley. Is that where the Enigma set comes from? Hmm...

OK Mat, thanks for posting !
Your link is great, I wonder how this one escaped my hunting, I have to make adjustments to my search radar on my craft !!:grin:

I said elsewere that Enigma is for HW3. HW1 had diferent extension : .organ, as then had MyOrgan and GrandOrgue today (does anyone remembers toccata?).

So, sets for HW3 do not work for GO.
BUT, one can use the samples themselves if they're not encrypted, means that they are in .wav format. Then one can make his own ODF , if he/she knows how, and use the samples from any set , mixed or not, and get his own personal VPO.
This way came up Enigma set. and Brut-Leuchten set - TRY this one Mat is Great. That's why these sets called composites. They do not represent any known real organ.

About the link. Lavender Hill's sets are very good. Small organs but lovely and very genuine English sound !
The independence Church set can work with free edition of HW3 - cannot with GO (samples only) cause is encrypted.
Groton set is not workin' with the free version of HW3. I tried - I failed.:(
If you know different please tell me. Maybe I write to them, cause there are sammore free sets for HW3 that aren't in this link.

Anyway this is a thread about GrandOrgue and "she" links best with Hauptwerk only if one can get some HW1 sets.;)

The old Hauptwerk site in Holland (where I got Clavecimbel 3,o after request and e-mail confirmation) still has some very good sets for HW1 witch of course work on GO. I didn't add them in the above index 'cause they're not free and ,in my opinion, very expencive, considering that with the same price one can buy a great and better set for HW3 !!!:p

St.Anne. It was the first set Bret made for Hauptwerk before Milan came, and if you click on organ info in your opened HW you'll see the story.
Is the set that comes with HW3 program, so one can have a good organ to play with. See also the two custom ones (load custom 1&2) the first is a swell from St.Anne and the second is a 3man St.Anne.
Enigma comes from other samples Al got from different sources to built it.

Tell me your progress, and please get some reverb to your GO, I listened to your fugue in dm again and I tell you is far greater inside St.Nicolae !!

Cheers

Hi Guys,

It is a great list so far... it might be nice to be able to give the download links for those that are still available for download, and for forum members to list what they have. It might also be appropriate to list the commercial sets that will work with GrandOrgue and the prices?
My favorite is still the updated Stiehr Mockers extended! I just wish that we had some nice free British or Dutch style Trumpet stops to add to the mix :)

Have fun!

Hello to all GrandOrgue fans !

There was also St.Stevens for HW1, now for HW3 only. I wasn't lucky to find it to give details, but must be like the HW3 version.

OK. Lets make it complete !

Hello,

I still have here the St. Stevens for HW1.
It has the same disposition as the HW3 version, but lacks the pistons.
The package is 701 Mbytes.
If someone wants it to make it available again on his web site, i can upload it to a free large files exchange site and send the link to get it.
Just send me your e-mail address in a PM.

All the best.

I also still have the St Stephens for HW1, and I think I also have a copy of the St Mary that Graham Harrison made from synthesised samples somewhere on my backup disk, it was also available for free and sounded pretty good (the Open Wood 16' on the pedal was memorable).

Hello Graham,

I happen to have saved some time ago a file Cavaillé-Coll Gerbéviller.zip
from Joseph Basquin's website containing samples with the following description:

Test de Trompette 8 - Cavaille Coll Gerbéviller.

www.jeuxdorgues.com
Joseph Basquin (2009)

The file is 42 Mbytes.
Is has samples per note about 1.2 Mbytes long from note 36 to 89.
Maybe you have this already.
If not, and you would be interested, let me know where i should upload it to.

All the best.

Erik.

Hi Erik,

Yes I have that one, it is a great French Trompette. In fact the Stiehr Mockers - Romanswiller and the Cavaillé-Coll Gerbéviller are great examples of the range of French Trompette ranks ;)
Still looking for that Henry Willis Trumpet sound though...

Big things you open here guys !
Erik thanks for confirmation about St.Stevens, I tried to edit my opening post thread to add it as No.34. Can't do it.

Graham is it allowed to give the links for download to all ?
Can we do it in Area51 only?
Krummhorn is the first who can guide us to the right path.

If we can, one or the other, it would be a complete work on GO.

Orgue Espaniol is no longer available, as St.Mary and St.Stevens.

Prudehoe is on a site where one must wait some certain hour to start downloading and in low speeds. I did it was worth the wait, I like this methodist thing 'cause is simple.

I got Jeux d' orgues 1, but in sf2 format and im gonna translate it to K4.
Can be done in .orgue but it needs permition from Joseph.

I know members between us can exchange missing sets to complete the collection, thru PM to a certain skydrive we're going to set or even mail us the CDs !

Give me proposals !

Panos, ask Krummhorn or rojo if they can make the first post of this thread editable by you at all times. If they can, you'll be able to add the links whenever something new comes up. I'm not sure if it's possible, but I think it's worth trying...

Good idea Mat ! I'll do inform Krummhorn/Rojo tomorow.
An Index like this, as I believe interests many people, must be edited at all times, as you say, it saves time to the newcomer to get to the right path without being forced to reed many posts to.

Hi all,

I want to make some questions:

Where are the free samples from numbers 26 and followings?

I saw the http://hauptwerkhelp.info/free_sample_sets.html given by Mat and, if it is a list of free samples why is St. Anne's organ not for free?

Lombardo

Hi Lombardo ! How's things in Portugal?

Organo Espagnol is no longer available, as I posted above....
Two options :

1. Get the sf2 bank of Organo Espagnol for jOrgan dispositions from Levy's site and have a taste of the samples with a sf2 player. Organo Espagnol for jOrgan needs 3.8.2 version and although I istalled it ok it doesn't work for me either on 32 or 64 bit laptops..

2. PM me to send you the GO file (it's big more than 222MB) on CD/DVD, or find another way for uploading it.

I recently build small Spanish organs for Kontakt 4, if you got it, I can send you something to test it or use it as you like.

St.Anne's Moseley comes free with HW3 free version along with two custom versions of it : a swell/positiv one man/ped and a four man/ped english cathedral beast.
As you know sets for HW3 don't work with GrandeOrgue, only HW1 ones, so St.Anne. I don;t think we can get the fisrt version of it for HW1 for free and the quality will be lesser...

Have fun

Hi Guys,

The reason that the St Annes is not listed here is that the license that applies to the St Anne's VPO sample set from Hauptwerk/Milan Digital Audio specifies that it is free for personal use with Hauptwerk only. So to use it, download HW3, load up St Annes in the Free Edition, and have fun playing (256 note polyphony). There are people who do have the HW1 version (and they have HW1), so they would be able to play it within whatever polyphony limits HW1 has on their system.

The free Brut Leuchten sample set for HW3 also has this restriction in it's license...

Have fun!

Hey Panos, any progress on making the sample set list editable?

Hey Panos, any progress on making the sample set list editable?

Ho Mat !
Yeap. It can be done, but not from me directly, I have to inform the administration team of what exactly I want to edit and they do it for us.

So, Help me here. I have to add :

a. St Stevens (confirmed by other members) with the note : no longer available.

b. Note : no longer available for Spanish organ set.(confirmed)

c. St.Mary's ? sould I write it was for HW1 but no longer available?

d. St.Anne's?!!
Graham do you mean this set from HW3 free ed. can work with HW1? or that it was at first available (the 1st set of HW) and now it isn't ?

e. Jeux d' orgues 1. Joseph recorded 3/2000 the Georges Frederic Walther organ in Oberhausbergen, now available as sf2 bank ( so can be used as a jOrgan definition and I'm tempted to develope it myself). Confirmed it was for HW1 ?

Correct me or adjust, to inform administration for editing.

I'm also workin' on an Index of comercial sets. I think is better to open a new thread - Index for those.....

Cheers
Panos

Hi Panos,

I'm willing to host the St Stephens HW1 edition on my download site so I can upload that this week and provide a link.

We have not been able to contact the original producer [Patricio Barrero] of the Organo Espanol (Spanish Organ). If anyone knows him or has contact with him then we can find a host for this set.

The St Mary's was produced by Graham Harrison, so I can ask him if there is still a link available, and if not then can ask for permission to host it. I think he has been working on updating this one so there might be an update available too...

St Annes. Originally available in HW1 as .organ format, it is now only available in HW3 with HW XML Organ Definition File. The wav files are standard and if you get permission/license from MDA you could create your own .organ file. This should not be listed in this list, but perhaps in the commercial one? Dunno...

OK Graham thanks for this.
I 'll add like this :
St.Anne - no longer available (now in HW3 version)
St. Stevens (no comment. Those who want they can go to the link you 'll point out)
St. Mary and Espagnol I'll add, but will wait for more info...

Does anyone knows or got JeuxD'orgues 1 (Walther organ) for HW1?
