There is a Bill Evans, born 1958 who plays mainly tenor and soprano sax.
(Strangely enough there is a third Bill Evans born 1961 who plays bass (mainly funk and rock)

This tenor jazz player commenced his career as a pianist in his early 20s
He recorded for Blue Note but also served as a talent scout for the label
helping new comers such as Monk to gain recognition.

This well known jazz trumpeter stopped playing in the early 60s
to become better known as a composer/arranger. Who was he?

I'll just continue in the same genre here. Name the drummer who played with Kenton and was also on the west coast jazz scene, plus, he played with Charlie Parker and the be boppers as well.
He was a heavyweight boxer before becomning a drummer. He said, in words to the effect."I figured it was better hitting a drum than being hit in the ring!"
