I dont quite know what to think of this fusion stuff.

I have heard much worse but it's not for me which reminds me of an old number "They're singing songs of love but not for me" now a true jazz man would be able to weave in and out of that improvising with a solid rhythm section and never leave you thinking "wtf was that all about"

John, Please forgive me for not responding much, much earlier to your fine thread, but I really only came across it tonight, what with my wife being in the hospital for 2 weeks etc., etc. I would humble answer your original query by joining CD in stating that my knowledge of and familarity with 21st Century jazz to date doesn't extend much beyond Esbjorn Svensson's group. I am still exploring, however, and remain open to new groups; should I come across any in my travels thru Spotify, YouTube or the radio, I shall be sure and share them with my fellow members on this forum. I also heartily endorse CD on his comments re: McCoy Tyner and his genius, especially when he was paired with Trane.
Again, please forgive me for my tardy response: don't abandon ship just yet!
