True that they have an ancient civilization John but also a huge population spread over a huge area with many diverse factions. They are certainly taking on the Western traping as well as the dress. They are innovators, similar to the Japanese, good at taking on products and improveing them. The Japanese did that with Browning shotguns marketed as Miroku and ended up with a product that was as good if not better than the original. They are an intelligent race who only need exposure to the rest of the world to make considered changes to their lifestyle. Do not forget that two of the reasons they are able to export so much are cheap labour and cheap power. No one is telling them not to build coal fired power stations instead of very expensive wind turbines.

I can agree with everything you're saying, factual and reasonable.

From my news perspective, north of the disUnited States,
wanting to attack a country because the son took over, forgetting Bush Sr. and Jr. over here,
sounds like wanting to attack a country for the oil because they don't have weapons of mass destruction,
without taking America's stockpile of nuclear weapons into account.

As much as newer manufacturing technology is letting the Chinese dominate American markets,
their one child birth policy is also letting society adapt and conserve resources for modern times,
something that's not happening here.

But more than any of this, just what the world is spinning for,
I see the Chinese as owing the world a look inside the tomb of the first emperor of China.
That should inspire all of mankind.

I challenge you to produce independently verified and peer-reviewed scholarship that proves what you state about China's one child policy, which is really Gov't sponsored infanticide! I cannot abide with the 21 century holocaust thats happening in China. Come on John, I know that you are smarter than what you have stated.

Thanks for your confidence in me, Corno Dolce, but my histories only get worse, as histories are.
It's certainly a harsh society when the government has to impose birth control,
but in the twenties when mass starvation plagued China,
parents were auctioning off children in market squares for cannabalistic consumption,
and after that passed,
orphanages were using heavy blankets to smother children on tables.

Chinese couples having to immigrate to legally have more than one child isn't bad,
compared to that.

Remember that sixties book, "How the Japanese lost the war but won the peace?",
a description of their takeover of American manufacturing, what first weakened North Americans?
That's not because they're smarter overall.
They had to rebuild their country after the war, so all new manufacturing gave them a modern head start.

I'm getting into North and South Korea lately, not just Gangnam Style, but as the last preserve of the dinosaur age.
That's where the biggest and most fancifully evolved dinosaurs once roamed.

I am surprised that information is available for N Korea? a quick google search does not confirm. see : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate of course the info on the www could be out of date.
