Toru Takemitsu [Japan] (1930-1996)
Many would take issue with the characterization of [him being] mainly a film score composer. Many regard him as Japan’s most important 20th C. classical composer. Altho he did 93 film scores, his more than 130 classical compositions are more substantial.

Latvian composer Peteris Vasks (born 1946), one of the better contemporary composers IMO.

Names beginning with "X" would work for China, Spain and Greece but seemingly not for J to M countries. At the risk of being overruled, then:

Yun, Isang (1917-95) Korea (South). Very prolific composer whose works "explore aesthetic and philosophical issues relating to Asian traditional music, Chinese Taoism and Western avant-garde compositional procedures."(Wikipedia) He served in the Korean resistance during WWII and was captured by the Japanese. Later in life, "Kidnapped in 1967 by South Korean Secret Service, transported to Seoul, tortured and sentenced to death * In prison composed opera Butterfly Widow on floor of cell * Following diplomatic pressure from international composing community, released to return to Germany in 1969." Amazing!

That is amazing.

Manuel de Zumaya (c. 1678 – 1755) Mexican baroque composer.

And now...

We could go with the Netherlands or Norway. Possibly New Zealand. Should we go with the Netherlands, in Art Rock`s honour? :)

Thanks. :)
It might be wise to do something similar and go for NOPQ?

I agree! Let's include Oman and Qatar  . Seriously, that's a good grouping of interesting countries:
Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, possibly Nicaragua, Poland, Portugal, possibly Peru.....
Want to do that?

Well, aside from Q and X (which are always a problem no matter how many letters we group together,) all letters can be covered by countries starting with N. We could always group O, P and Q countries with R ones. Or something like that. Maybe we should profit of the fact that there are so many Dutch and Norwegian composers, and just group all countries starting with N together...

What say you all?

This is a nice revision idea ... now revisiting it myself, imo, there should be enough to fill the alphabet with "N" countries. Thanks for the suggestion, Rojo :tiphat:
