    WikiLeaks

What are your views on WikiLeaks??
Is it doing harm or good? The following is from their website

WikiLeaks is a non-profit media organization dedicated to bringing important news and information to the public. We provide an innovative, secure and anonymous way for independent sources around the world to leak information to our journalists. We publish material of ethical, political and historical significance while keeping the identity of our sources anonymous, thus providing a universal way for the revealing of suppressed and censored injustices.

This is THE MAN Julian Assange

A great effort is being made to discredit him?? What do you think?

Just another storm in a teacup, for this and other "media sensations" I tend nowadays to ask myself

    Does it really affect me?

Can I do anything about it?

    Cheers MIKE.

    Ahah! A good debate question.

I firmly believe that our US government withholds lots of information from its citizens. What Julian is doing is exposing that information, good or bad, and in some cases forcing our government to take action on certain items and to give straight answers to the public.

Rarely have we ever gotten any straight answers from any politician here.

I used to work in for a military contractor ... there were matters that went undisclosed, like the cost of hammers ($350.00) and toilet seats ($795.00) paid with "our" tax monies - I always thought it was very wrong and needed to be exposed. I mean, that $795 toilet seat did not feel any different than the one at Walmart for $3.25.

Mike raises a good point too ... I can't do anything about it ... none of us can unless we bond in numbers and march against capitol hill. I also thing the media is at fault too ... making a mountain out of a molehill.

I agree there are things we do not know. but there is nothing we can do about it.

Whether my knowing about these things matters, I am not sure. If it was very bad and I could make changes, then I might be interested.

I think it is good that these things are coming out, for far too long we have been treated as dumb idiots only useful as cannon fodder, OK there are areas of sensitive military info that must not be leaked but who decides on that?
Ever since the Internet came into common use the power elite are scared, they want to control it (www) so that we are kept in the dark (as the man said, You know where you are in the dark) so I say good on him, at last we can do something about it.

The alegation of rape is a powerful tool for discrediting people. Can be very hard to prove, but also very hard to disprove, and meanwhile the person accused is discredited, maybe even jailed. As far as information being witheld from the public, who decides what is in the best interest? The anti-terrorist Act has been used in this country to edject an elderly genteman, who incidentially is held in high esteem throughout the country, but was disagreeing with a Labour politician at an assembly. Arrested as a terrorist because you hold an opposing view. It was the goverment in power at the time that decieded that was reasonable. Who can we trust. Our previous prime minister lied to parliament about the threat to this country, and took us to war on a blatant lie. Who can you trust if not the prime minister. It is only by keeping everything as transparent as possible that we can be sure of the facts, whether it is local goverment or national, or even international events. In that respect maybe Julian Assange is doing us all a favour. Guilty of rape? I doubt it.

"Do No Evil" - As Google (r) likes to tout.......

I'm with Krummhorn on this one.

But, as the world witnessed what has happened in Egypt when it almost shut down the 'net in that region, so too can the U.S., Russia, Germany, France, Sweden, China, Japan and other "Key Nodes" shut down the 'net if there is too much mischief.................
*If a man wants God to hear his prayer quickly, then before he prays for anything else, even his own soul, when he stands and stretches out his hands towards God, he must pray with all his heart for his enemies. Through this action God will hear everything that he asks* -Abba Zeno-
