H Mat,
I feel sad that only now (thanks to you), when I approach 80 years of age, am I beginning to
find out about the wealth of Polish jazz that exists. And furthermore (thanks to Youtube)
that great jazz can be found around the world.
However it is also exhilarating. I give your track 9/10.
Here is a beautiful polish lady - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=KpBMYjnCLRU
Thanks, John. I shall start posting more actively in the international jazz thread then, even though my knowledge of Polish jazz is (very sadly) not that good, either.
Apropo your query abour Wallace Roney,
I can only suggest that you enter him on YouTube - lots of info about the many set-ups he has played with.
As for Pat Methany - he plays beautifully but is it really jazz - not for me. (7/10)
As for Petrucciani Mat, the little guy has true jazz magic. (9/10).
Sorry I forgot one of mine for rating but here it is http://www.youtube.com/embed/0CJkwu5OD8Y
Teddy,
Strange as it might sound, I like Johnny Dankworth's version better - I still have the EP from 1961 (Columbia 45-DB 4590). I wish I could send you a copy but my computer skills are not up to this. (And I do know that Bobby Timmons composed this for Art Blakey). Dankworth's group have a more "sympathetic" interpretation - don't know how else to put it.
Eric.
Just one example Eric of how Jazz fans vary in their taste.
We could probably all find a stack of various renderings of that tune which are listenable.
It somehow seems to have become neglected again Mat and that cant be allowed to happen.
I did struggle with the sound level of your track, but will give it 7/10
